Construction Update

“Patience is bitter, but the fruit is sweet.”
– Jean-Jacques Rousseau

It was with tremendous excitement that the North Central court construction project began on March 14, 2022. We anticipated a full year off of all activities at the Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center, including missing the Girls’ 2022 IHSAA season, a full summer, and the Boys’ 2022 IHSAA season with an anticipated reopening date set for April of 2023.

Unfortunately, plans changed. In the interim we’ve had the opportunity to practice the old adage “patience is a virtue” and we’re anxiously looking forward to the sweet fruit portion of Rousseau’s claim.

Because, simply put, the 26 all-new US Open style courts and additional QuickStart courts for beginner youth will be just that – pretty darn sweet. It’s just taking a little longer to get there.

Whether it be because of permitting, weather, or availability of materials, the end result is the same, a delayed opening of the new courts. There has, however, been significant progress over the last couple of months and the end is finally in sight.

The new anticipated reopening is set for the end of June 2023.

But what does this mean for Summer 2023?!

The good news….
We will still offer a full summer of programming! For the month of June we will again utilize satellite locations. In fact, your feedback at the end of last summer was invaluable! You might notice some locations are the same as Summer 2022, while some groups will be meeting at new sites.

The even better news….
Classes at our home facility on the campus of North Central High School will resume July 5, 2023.

Naturally, we will be keeping an eye on things as construction continues and the project progresses. Regular updates will be given and further reopening details will be announced as the completion date nears.

Although we hate to even mention it, there is the ability for us to remain flexible at the satellite locations through July, should the need arise.  (But we’re just whispering that part 🙂.)

Counting down the days until we can celebrate the reopening together!

Until then, registration for Summer 2023 is now open!
