ICTP Billie Jean King Essay Contest

The Indianapolis Community Tennis Program is thrilled to announce the ICTP Billie Jean King Essay Contest, running in conjunction with the free virtual fireside chat with Billie Jean King on June 30, 2020 at 5 pm. (Click here for the event page.)

Contest Overview

CONTEST MISSION
Founded in 1964, the Indianapolis Community Tennis Program values leadership and academic excellence, utilizing the sport of tennis as a vehicle to foster individual growth.

PRIZE
One winner from each age division will be awarded a High Performance Class Scholarship (equaling $1,100) for Summer 2021. Winners will be announced on July 28, 2020.

Contest Rules

ELIGIBILITY
This contest is open to all current, registered participants of the Indianapolis Community Tennis Program, Summer 2020. Only one essay may be submitted by each entrant.

Two age categories:
13 years old and under
14 – 18 years old (must be a current high school student)

*Corresponding submission form must be completed by a parent or guardian.

ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
All entries must be prepared originally for this contest and must not be previously published in any format. Essays must be a minimum of 350 words.

IDENTIFICATION
An entry number will be assigned on receipt of the entry, and the entrant will be advised of the number. No identification other than the title of the entry should appear on the essay itself to assure objectivity in the judging process.

JUDGING
Essays will be judged by a subcommittee designated by the Indianapolis Community Tennis Program. Their decision is final and their names cannot be divulged. ICTP and the judging subcommittee reserve the right to award no prize.

How to Submit Entries

ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS
If you would like to submit your entry electronically, complete the form at the bottom of this page and attach your essay. Your essay should not exceed 50 MB and should be in one of the following formats: Word, PDF, TXT, RTF or HTML. Your entry must be submitted by 11:59 pm EST on July 15, 2020. NOTE: The deadline for submission has been extended. All entries must be submitted by 11:59 pm EST on July 19, 2020.

PAPER SUBMISSIONS
If you would like to submit your entry by mail, please include a cover sheet with your submission. The cover sheet must include the name, address, telephone number, email address, and birth date with the entrant’s title for the entry. The cover letter and copy of your essay must be mailed and postmarked on or before July 15, 2020. The U.S. Postal Service postmark will determine the mailing date. The materials may also be sent via an express delivery service (FedEx, UPS, etc.) and shipped on or before July 19, 2020.
