Summer 2022 Update

Summer 2022
We’re Open for Business!

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news and announcements regarding the next few months!

We have been collaborating with the MSDWT and the USTA on plans for 26 brand new outdoor courts at North Central High School, funded entirely by the community support of the MSDWT Referendum!

MSDWT has gone above and beyond expectations for the new outdoor courts. The existing courts will be torn out, relocated, and replaced with upgraded, post-tension concrete courts.

After a few years of planning, this dream finally came to life on March 14th when demolition of all 30 courts began. While we know the end result will be utterly incredible, it does present some challenges for upcoming programming.

Through this process we have been reminded of just how luck we are to have the best facility in Midwest. With 30 full size courts, 4 QuickStart courts, and the tennis house it is, quite simply, impossible to replicate. But we’re up for the challenge!

While classes will not be meeting at North Central, the show will go on! This summer we are grateful to be partnering with surrounding facilities to provide programming for all ages and levels.

We’ve worked hard and taken several steps to ensure our ability to provide the same quality instruction that we have for the last 58 years.

Smaller class sizes, continued use of Youth Progression equipment for our youngest players to maximize court space, and specific locations for different sectors of the program will all help to offer the widest range of programming possible.

Summer 2022 registration is now open! Just act fast — space truly is limited and classes are filling up quicklly.

Looking forward to spending another terrific summer together!

Visit Us at the Camp Fair!

Please join us for the Indy’s Child Camp Fair! Stop by the ICTP table Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 11 am – 2 pm at Park Tudor School in their Commons Room.

Our very own Barbara Wynne will be there to provide information about this summer’s Opportunity Opens benefitting Riley Children’s Foundations.

Children can receive tips from beloved Coach JT Wynne! Players who complete JT’s challenges will receive a tennis ball.

Congratulations, Steve Wakefield!

Congratulations to Steve Wakefield on receiving the USTA Central Indiana Presidential Award!

This award is to recognize someone who throughout their lifetime has made outstanding contributions in the Central Indiana District to innovate, promote, and grow the game of tennis.

It goes without saying that this recognition is much deserved! Steve has made countless contributions in not just growing and influencing the game, but also helping to shape so many young people. It has been an honor and a privilege to have Steve as a valued member of our staff for nearly 45 years.

From the CITA Awards Ceremony Program:

Steve began his tennis career in 1974 at the Indianapolis Racquet Club under Ed Brune and spent summers teaching at Broadmoor Country Club. In 1977 Barbara Wynne hired Steve to teach at the Washington Township Tennis Program and run the Western Closed Tennis Championships for Boys and Girls 16s and 18s. Through opportunities at IRC and the (now) Indianapolis Community Tennis Program he has run over 400 junior tennis tournaments in which most serious high school players in Indiana have competed, learning skills, sportsmanship and life lessons dealing with competitors and teammates. After 45 years he retired from teaching at IRC but continues to referee tournaments and this summer marked his 44th year at the Indianapolis Community Tennis Program.

He is a certified tennis referee and umpire, and a lifelong member of the United States Tennis Association. He has run international, national, sectional, district, and local junior tournaments for 43 years as tournament director and referee. He has received the Cap Leighton Award from the USTA/Midwest Tennis Association, the Stan Malless Award from the Central Indiana Tennis Association and was inducted into the IHSTeCA Hall of Fame in 2014.

“Tennis as a lifetime sport” is the mantra (adopted from Barbara Wynne) he has lived by for his 45+ year tennis career.

Congratulations Colin McPeek

Over the weekend Colin won the Level 2- Grand Rapids, MI tournament in both singles and doubles for the B12s!

He had wins over players from New York, Colorado and Kansas.

Great job Colin!
